ART BASEL, MIAMI BEACH Over 200 of the world's leading international Modern and contemporary art galleries display artworks from over 4,000 masters of Modern and Contemporary art as well as the new generation of emerging stars. Paintings, sculptures, installations, photographs, films, and editioned works of the highest quality are on view in the main exhibition hall. The exhibitors includes galleries from 33 countries and territories spanning five continents. Art Basel Miami Beach starts today with an invitation only event at the Miami Convention Center. The show is open to the public starting December 5 at the Convention Center and in private galleries around Miami Beach and Miami Design District thru Sunday, December 8th.
FAENA FESTIVAL You’ll Be Okay, a video by Miami artist Jillian Mayer, is screened on a roving LED billboard boat that travels across the Miami waterways as part of Faena Festival’s “The Last Supper” starting today through December 8. The Last Supper explores the relationship between food and spirituality such as communion and fasting to reveal connections between religious rituals and cultural practices.The Faena Festival unites both iconic and contemporary platforms to sharing the experience between healing ourselves and the collective body. The Festival is free and open to the public.

CONVERSATIONS Susan J Barron’s new series “Conversations” brings a diverse cache of imagery into collision with juxtapositions and classic images emerging as new. Susan Barron’s “Conversations” reimagines iconic images and creates a new visual dialogue that links us backwards and forwards in time. Barron mixes highbrow and lowbrow with equal delight. Susan J. Barron is an internationally recognized and collected artist. Her paintings, both figurative and politically motivated, have been shown in galleries from San Francisco to New York. “Conversations” is on display at Scope Miami Beach’s pavilion located on the sands on Ocean Drive and 8th Street.
THE ART OF LISTENING Art Basel’s proximity to the Atlantic Ocean makes it the perfect place to present an immersive sound installation titled, “The Art of Listening: Under Water.” The watchmaker Audemars Piguet commissioned Norwegian artist Jana Winderen for a public artwork in the Collins Park Rotunda. For the Miami project, Winderen has created recordings from across the city with the use of ultra sensitive tools and an ultrasound detector to create a location specific sound piece to bring her listeners’ attention to the fragility of our world’s delicate ecosystems and to listen closely to the ocean’s inhabitants and to reflect upon the ways in which human activity interferes with underwater life.
