CAPTAIN HOOKED Booking boats gets a whole lot easier come March 15, when Immidia launches its Miami operations. A cross between Uber and Airbnb, the no-brainer app for luxury transportation worldwide adds yachts to its fleet, whether pleasure crafts or sailboats and catamarans. In a mere three clicks minus the middleman, scroll through options for premier vessels; select departure and arrival dates and ports, and customize amenities and services, including toys like jet skis and paddle boards, and dining from picnic baskets to bubbles. Pay with a stored credit card; receive your order confirmation and recap, and anchors away. Yachts, captains and crews have been vetted by experienced experts in the luxury boating and hospitality industries. It expands to Dubai, St. Barts, Mykonos, Palma de Mallorca and the French Riviera soon.
BACK TO THE FUTURE The Broken Shaker boys and the Vagabond’s chef comprise the tasty team behind the resurrection of beloved piano bar Magnum. Renamed the Anderson, the late-night bar and restaurant returns to the Eighties through décor (animal print wallpaper, red seating) and old-school drinks like sex on the beach. Being mixologists, they couldn’t resist putting their own spin on it, with craft cocktails like Stay Golden Pony Boy (in reference to “The Outsiders”) with Jim Beam, Amara Montenegro and grapefruit beer. Pace yourself with munchies like Japanese hot dogs with samurai sauce, and patty melts with aged Comté and caramelized onions on marble rye. Past patrons will be pleased to know the piano remains to belt out-of-tune versions of Billy Joel hits into the wee hours when DJs and blues musicians aren’t performing.
GREEN SCENE Official spring is nearly here so it’s time to tour some beautiful backyards and get outside in general. Miami Beach Botanical Garden hosts its 15th annual garden tour on March 12. After seeing six exquisite properties, mainly along the water, return to the benefitting tropical oasis designed by Raymond Jungles for refreshments, a plant sale and flower show. It’s impressive to note that the event, which began by raising $1,500, has blossomed to more than $150,000 over the years. Tickets are $30. Roger Hammer, the leading expert on South Florida wildflowers, gives a tour to spot a variety of blooms in Everglades National Park on March 20. GROVE GOURMET Coconut Grove’s renaissance continues with Ariete, a restaurant cofounded by two old pals from Miami, including the Cypress Room’s former sous chef. Cy Davis designed the bilevel, 80-seat space with a wine cellar for intimate dinner parties; a pending terrace adds more seating. The new American menu specializes in artisanal ingredients—house-cured charcuterie and homemade terrines and pickles. Expanding beyond conventional fare, they incorporate game like venison, and creative delicacies such as bone marrow-flavored oysters and foie gras with sour orange vinegar, caramel and cacao nibs. If that seems too heavy, opt for wood-grilled chicken with salsa verde and fish with fennel and white beans. Dallas Wynne, a protégé of Michael’s Genuine pastry chef Hedy Goldsmith, bakes pies and doughnuts to dunk in homemade marmalades.
