Your guide to South Florida's trendiest hot spots
BASEL'S BEGINNINGS
It isn’t even Art Basel yet, and some of its exciting shows are already opening. Tonight, art-world darling Spinello Projects unveils Game Over by graffiti turned savvy street artist Typoe. The 30-year-old Miami native has come a long way from tagging warehouses to being tapped for plum collaborations with Del Toro shoes and AWE Talisman properties. Winding through his dark mix of found objects, neon and works on paper feels like a fun house. Another reception is scheduled for December 3, or catch it by January 4. Tomorrow night, Nova Southeastern University’s Museum of Art Fort Lauderdale premieres Spirit of Cobra, an exhibit that documents the avant-garde movement pioneered in Copenhagen, Brussels and Amsterdam, hence its acronym.

WEEKEND EDITION
If Beach boutique is Miami, then its follow-up Weekender is Harbour Island. Owner Patricia Costa opened the second location to service clients on the mainland and offer perfect pieces to pack for a quick jaunt to the Caribbean, if only in one’s mind. Her selection curates resort basics:  Skin’s organic pima cotton tees, as well as its new ready-to-wear collection; subtle styles from Robin’s Jean that wear like a pair of vintage Levi’s 501s; Ancient Greek Sandals; LoveShackFancy, and Loup Charmant’s tent and peasant dresses in soft gauze. For Basel parties, look no further than feminine, floor-length gowns by Kathy Hilton a.k.a. the Hilton sisters’ mom. Decorated with brick accents and French flair, the cute, tiny store is just as welcoming as the original.

FLOWERS & FENDERS
Now that the humidity has broken, it’s a lovely reason to visit Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden, especially since its 73rd annual Ramble occurs Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Miami’s closest experience to a souk, this locals’ tradition is worth the long parking lines to scour all the treasures that await from 15,000+ plants making up South Florida’s largest sale of its kind, to wares including rare books, antiques and eco-chic crafts. Parents can sip pina coladas to steel drums, while kids frolic in the chocolate garden and watch magicians. Car enthusiasts should make a beeline for the Miami International Auto Show at the Miami Beach Convention Center. Forty manufacturers like Ferrari and Bentley present more than 1,000 new models from Nov. 8-17.

EVERGLADES & EATS
Two hot events also are taking place next week, so pencil them in pronto. Attendees of the Everglades Foundation’s annual ForEverglades ball in Palm Beach know this nonprofit not only supports an incredibly vital cause but throws a great party. On Friday, November 15, it hosts An Evening in the Gardens with cocktails, a buffet supper and music at Pinecrest Gardens in Miami. During the same time across town, Lucky Rice, a New York-based roving festival for Asian cuisine and cocktails, celebrates at the Raleigh Hotel in South Beach. Organizers including Iron Chef Masaharu Morimoto are teaming up with Bombay Sapphire East for exclusive drinks, as well as local restaurants and chefs like Michael Schwartz, Khong River House and beloved Vietnamese pop-up Phuc Yea for seriously decadent dining.
