Your guide to South Florida's trendiest hot spots
JUST CAVALLI
Roberto Cavalli lives large. Whereas most people celebrate at Prime 112 or Joe’s Stone Crab, the Italian fashion designer known for plunging necklines and leopard print is opening a restaurant and lounge on Ocean Drive for his birthday tomorrow. No newcomer to hospitality, he already owns establishments in Florence and St. Tropez and has licensed several others from Dubai to Toronto. A collaboration with the Miami Beach locals behind Quattro and Wall, the South Beach location is drenched in his aesthetic including pillows from his home collection, and custom floral and animal prints for tablecloths and chairs. The branding whiz also serves cocktails made with his vodka and red wine from his Tuscan winery to complement the classic Italian menu.

PETS TO PAMPERING
Make it a day at the Fontainebleau. Start with an over-the-top benefit for the Humane Society of Greater Miami. Pets are welcome to the 17th annual Brunch for the Animals featuring a silent auction, raffle prizes and photo booth for master and pooch portraits, not to mention a complimentary menu for furry guests. Afterward, relax at Lapis Spa. Evolving with the times, the amenity introduces new services this month:  facials with organic, vegan products and pore perfecting, ultrasound technology, as well as medical massages to treat ailments from migraines to TMJ syndrome. Couples and friends can book the Bleau suite for customized services following a mineral soak with add-ons like scrubs and scented oils. Spa visits include a full-day pool pass.

FULL MOON & BELLY
Paradise Farms begins its famed gourmet dining series earlier this year. On Sunday, November 17, the lush, organic oasis in Homestead hosts an al fresco, five-course meal prepared by HaVen’s Todd Erickson, Market 17’s Lauren DeShields and Tongue & Cheek’s Jamie DeRosa. American Fine Wine Competition founder Shari Gherman pours complementary wines following a sunset reception and farm tour of the oyster mushroom house, microgreen production and beds of herbs, edible flowers and root vegetables planted among dozens of avocado trees. With the glorious full moon, it will be even more magical. Choosing which dinner to attend is even harder this season since several big guns have signed on—Eating House, Pubbelly and Clay Conley, the former Azul chef who owns two restaurants in Palm Beach, are just a few exciting participants.

BOOK 'EM
Who would have thought that Miami hosts the oldest and largest international book fair worldwide, yet its 30th anniversary kicks off on Sunday. Join festival co-founder and Books & Books owner Mitchell Kaplan as he welcomes more than 400 authors through November 24 at Miami Dade College’s Wolfson Campus. A master of hooking readers from the first chapter, thriller author Dan Brown is the perfect start to the “Evenings With” series that also features Pat Conroy, Terry McMillan and Sherman Alexie. Spain’s Prince Felipe and Princess Letizia lead the inaugural ceremony as part of this year’s Iberian theme. Also new are conversations between notable literati like Erica Jong and Jennifer Weiner. Browse books including rare first editions and hear readings geared toward all ages at next weekend’s packed street fair.
