The Scoop: Your Guide to South Florida's Trendiest Hotspots
BEACH-BOUND BILL
A new adaptation of William Shakespeare’s play Antony and Cleopatra premieres tonight followed by a cocktail benefit with the cast at the Colony Theatre and 1111 Building in South Beach, respectively. The traveling production is a collaboration among London’s Royal Shakespeare Company, New York’s Public Theater and Miami’s GableStage. Playwright Tarell Alvin McCraney, a Miami native who overcame a troubled childhood in Liberty City to study at Yale and win a MacArthur Genius Grant, sets the grown-up version of the classic tragedy Romeo and Juliet during the eve of the Haitian revolution in the late 18th century. Joaquina Kalukango and Jonathan Cake tackle the title roles for a riveting, historical account involving betrayal, defeat, and feigned and fatal suicides. Catch repeat performances on weekends through February 9.

MAN CAVE & CLOSET
New Yorker Ofir Farahan noticed there wasn’t a great men’s store catering to the young residents and professionals pouring into Brickell. So the stylish entrepreneur opened OFY at Mary Brickell Village in a masculine setting decorated with luxurious dark wood. He swears by life/after/denim’s button-down shirts in 100 percent cotton that offer a great fit. Other items are SeaVees casual, slip-on loafers like the sort Don Johnson wore in Miami Vice; Zanerobe blazers that are all the rage Down Under where the hip streetwear label is based, and Daniel Wellington watches with interchangeable leather and Nato ribbon straps that could be straight out of The Official Preppy Handbook. With regular art and trunk shows, too, it’s become a big boys’ club.

SALTY TOP DOG
Oh-so-pretty Juvia has some competition, and who would have thought it would come from a restaurant along the Miami River? Seasalt and Pepper is wooing the It crowd including celebs like Jay Z and Beyonce through stunningly chic décor and ample skyline and water views. The master tastemaker behind its nautical industrial look is Stephane Dupoux, who designed Nikki Beach, among other hot spots. Drawing inspiration from a little of this and that (Latin meets Moorish tiles, sleek yacht bars and the American flag’s palette and stripes), he also presents two large installations—wicker baskets for trapping shellfish comprise his own creation, whereas Miami artist Carlos Betancourt was commissioned for an exploding sculpture of found objects mainly painted black from which a rhinestone tiara sparkles.

LINKED IN
The neighborhood butcher is back thanks to Proper Sausages. As its name implies, the shop’s links are made with love onsite using the highest quality, sustainable meats. Around a dozen varieties fill the case at any given time. A few are the namesake signature combining Berkshire pork, fresh sage, mace and black pepper, as well as New Zealand lamb done marguez-style or with fresh mint, dates and za’atar spice blend. Top them with the house’s mustards alongside its spicy, sour pickles. Meat lovers also will find elk tenderloin, a trio of bacons, and ground brisket featuring bits of maple and sage bacon for the ultimate burger. Regarding beverages, they carry craft beers and wines like Damien Coquelet Beaujolis, Shawn Minor cabernet sauvignon and Domaine Girard Sancerre.
